In 2024 I will begin a read-through of the Vulgate in Latin. As I will be following along with my church’s plan for reading through the Bible, I will not be reading the deutero-canonical books, just the 66 books of the undisputed canon.
I am inviting you along on this journey, which you may do in a couple of ways:
- The easiest is by simply checking in to the Substack here, where I will host a very brief podcast (typically 15 minutes or less) each week with some thoughts about what I encountered in the readings.
- Look out for a new FB group that will give you the opportunity to ask questions and make your own observations.
- If you read Latin, read with me! Even if you can’t keep up with the pace required to get through the whole thing in a year, just do what you can. Every verse you read is one step closer to having read the whole thing!
Stay tuned for the reading plan and a link to the FB group after American Thanksgiving.

I actually started on this last year and have read Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, and Romans 1-8. I plan to finish reading the NT by early 2024, and I may read-along with the group if I can make it align. It's a great idea, and I've enjoyed my own Vulgate reading so far.
Junius, what passages or books would you recommend for beginners? They are using Henle Latin. I have two in Henle 1 and one in Henle 4.
